The Jean Monnet Chair on Education, Training, Research and Innovation Policies actively participated and supported the Activities of the Jean Monnet Network on “Governance, Pluralism, and Trans- nationalisation in Europe” (GovUnet) which was realized in Lesbos Island, from 20th to 27th of February 2017.
The Academic Session of the Jean Monnet Network, on 20-22 February, included the Academic Seminar on “New Institutional, Social and Political Challenges for Europe in Crisis'' which took place in the premises of the University of Aegean. The Professors of the participating Institutions in the Network presented and discussed several controversial issues of the current European policies and raised critical questions about the future of European Integration. Dr Foteini Asderaki participated to the Seminar, presenting her academic work around the subject of “Integration, Disintegration or Differentiated Integration: the effects of crisis”. The participants, Phd and Master students, had the opportunity to ponder on important questions and take part to a constructive dialogue with the academics.
The next activity of the Network was the International Conference about “Youth and Crises in Europe” which took place on 23rd and 24th of February in the General Secretariat of the Aegean Sea and Insular Policy. Apart from the academics and the students of the participating institutions, present was representatives of the European Commission and European Parliament in Greece, Mr Argyris Peroulakis and Mr Leonidas Antonakopoulos. The Chair introduced the subject “Brain Drain and Brain Gain in Europe: the “war” for talents” and she presented her recent research on the subject which will be published. During the conference, the speakers and the participants emphasized on different aspects regarding the young people in the process of European integration.
The final activity of the Network was the Workshop of the Phd Candidates from the universities which participate in the program. During the Workshop the Phd Candidates had to present their papers while a pre- defined discussant, for each of them, had to pose their questions and their remarks about the research and structure of the papers. The main objective of the workshop was to put the Phd Candidates in a peer-working process through which they could ameliorated their papers which will be published in the collective volume of the Jean Monnet Network.
The Activities of the Network were concluded in the 27th of February with a working meeting of the academics and a generous team lunch.
